AboutTRANSFORMATION Welcome from the Author This program has been a labor of love, born from a deep desire to help people move from just knowing God’s Word to becoming transformed by it. Transformation is a difficult and painful process. As a butterfly does not emerge from a cocoon without a struggle, neither do we embrace the life of freedom offered to us in Galatians 5:1 without struggling. Second Corinthians 3:18 states that we are being transformed into the image of Christ. This transformation is not only inward but must be outwardly reflected in our character. It is my hope that this program will become a laboratory for life where the participants learn to live life well. God did not intend for us to live free from pain, but in the midst of trials, to live a life of integrity, excellence, dignity and truth. I asked myself why some people in the church live so poorly and with such mediocrity. It was my search for an answer to this question that led to Walking Worthy: A Journey to Freedom. - IdentityBefore the advent of sonograms, when a child was born the first words out of whoever was attending the birthing process were, “it’s a boy!” or “it’s a girl!” From the moment we enter the world, we are identified by our gender: male or female. By this time, the parents may have picked out a name, so we are identified by our name. Even at this early age, the child may be identified by looks: “cute,” “pretty,” “skinny,” “deformed,” “colicky,” etc. Identity is who we are, how we see ourselves, and how others see us. Our identities are both individual and collective. Each person’s identity includes gender, race, ethnicity, culture, class, age, sexuality and other facets. The multiple facets of our identity combine to create each of us as a unique being. We begin to form our sense of self during our first year of life within our family, cultural, and language communities. We have some God-given needs that are essential for us to develop a healthy sense of identity or who we are.
